January isn’t about starting over; it’s about building on what you’ve already learned. Earlier this month, we explored how your past experiences, even the messy ones, give you momentum and we introduced the habit loop and how to design micro-goals that reflect your values.

Now, it’s time to put those ideas into motion with a simple challenge: 3 Days of Showing Up.

Why Showing Up Matters

When you show up for yourself, even in small ways, you send a powerful message to your brain: I can do this. That message rewires your mindset, builds confidence, and strengthens your belief in your ability to follow through.

The 3-Day Challenge

Each day focuses on one intentional action:

Day 1: One Small Step

Choose a micro-goal that aligns with a value you care about. Maybe it’s a 5-minute walk for energy, a glass of water for nourishment, or a stretch break for calm. Use the habit loop to make it stick:

  • Cue: After lunch
  • Routine: 5-minute walk
  • Reward: Feel refreshed

Day 2: One Kind Thought

Practice self-compassion. Write down one encouraging thought or affirmation.

  • Cue: First thing in the morning
  • Routine: “I’m doing the best I can.”
  • Reward: A sense of ease and self-acceptance

Day 3: One Intentional Choice

Make one decision that supports your well-being- what you eat, how you spend your time, or how you respond to stress.

  • Cue: Before dinner
  • Routine: Add one vegetable to your plate
  • Reward: Feel nourished and intentional

Track Your Progress

To help you stay consistent, record your cue, routine, and reward each day. Focus on noticing what each action brings for you. After each day of the challenge, take a moment to reflect:

  • What did I choose today, and why?
  • How did it feel to show up for myself?
  • What shifted- physically, emotionally, or mentally?

You can jot down your thoughts in a journal, use your phone’s notes app, or simply pause for a moment of quiet reflection. The goal isn’t to measure success; it’s to recognize effort, intention, and growth.

Keep the Momentum Going

This challenge is a bridge between intention and action. It’s a way to practice showing up, not perfectly, but consistently. And when you do, you build the kind of self-trust that fuels long-term wellness.

So, take a breath. Choose your first small step. And let these three days remind you: you’re not starting from scratch; you’re starting from experience.
